RACING LEGENDS AT DUBAI GP REVIVAL

The second edition of the Gulf Historic Dubai GP Revival (GHDGPR) was held in Dubai Autodrome and concluded on November 27, 2022. The event is like a grande meeting of automobile enthusiasts who, in addition to enjoying motorsport events, want to get up close and personal with some renowned drivers. People also enjoy live music in the paddock and a variety of family entertainment options, including an open-air stage cinema.

Alain Prost, Mark Webber, Stefan Johansson, Timo Bernhard, Thierry Boutsen, and Marco Werner were among those that attended this year. The races were, of course, the primary draw. There were four primary classes, which included Formula One vehicles from the 1970s to the 1990s, as well as sportscars and GT prototypes from the 1980s to the 2000s. Nurburgring 24-hour winner Andre Lotterer, previous Formula E race winner Nicolas Prost, and three-time Formula 1 race winner Thierry Boutsen all competed in this year’s event.

Classic and retro racing vehicles lined up at the Dubai Autodrome for the return of the Gulf Historic Dubai Grand Prix Revival, and museum artefacts were on exhibit in a celebration of motorsport’s golden period.

With four racing categories, the Gulf Historic Dubai Grand Prix Revival recreates that enchantment and transports you back in time more than 40 years. Visitors will be able to see two new categories at this year’s event, in addition to the vintage 1970s F1 vehicles and sports cars – F1 cars from 1988 to 1995 and GT & Prototype automobiles from 1994 to 2010. The event was hosted at Dubai Autodrome. The three-day motorsport event showcased cars such as the Hesketh 308B raced by 1976 Formula One world champion James Hunt and a Le Mans-winning 1987 Rothmans Porsche 962. Drivers raced in two F1 divisions as well as two longer endurance events with vehicles registered between 1970 and 2010.

Mike Cantillon’s Tyrrell 010-2 beat everyone in the Formula One 1970s category on Saturday. The next day, however, Saturday’s second-placed Oliver Webb won the Hesketh 308B. In the 1980s class, Marco Werner, the Triple Crown champion in endurance racing, won both races in a Gebhardt C88 over the weekend. André Lotterer, three-time Le Mans winner, won the prototype and 2000s category on Saturday in a Porsche RS Spyder, while Emmanuel Collard triumphed on the last day in a Pescarolo LMP1 01.

On-track, Oliver Webb won the Formula One 70s category, driving James Hunt’s debut
race-winning car, the inimitable Hesketh 308B. Other race winners included Le Mans
legend Andre Lotterer in the Porsche RS Spyder, Marco Werner in the Gebhardt C88,
and Emmanuel Collard in the Pescarolo LMP1 01.

“Enthusiasm for track-based motor racing in the Middle East has been steadily building in recent years,” said Pierre-Brice Mena, managing director of event organisers GP Extreme.

“With this second [revival] event, we’re establishing a concept we hope to expand in the coming years.

“We have a desire to be disruptive and break the norms, and with that we’re bringing an entirely fresh view of motorsport to the Middle East.”

Aside from the race events, there was an area for historic automobile shows. Lamborghinis, Jaguars, Ferraris, Shelby were among the highlights from that space. Jaguar Classic, which restores classic Jaguar vehicles to near-original condition, was also present with two racing roadsters. Onlookers were amazed by a C-Type and a D-Type from the brand’s Continuation line.

The GHDGPR’s second edition was bigger and more lavish than the first, with more racing over more days. Even in compared to previous year, attendance during the weekend more than quadrupled this year. The annual GHDGPR appears to be on its way to become a must-see event for all racing fans.

Aside from the racing, guests have the opportunity to participate in a variety of events during the Gulf Historic Dubai Grand Prix Revival 2022. The two-day event consisted of much more than just vehicle racing. From an opening parade to beach buggies, this was a fantastic event that all who participated and observed will remember.
